Level: Entry to Mid Range RAID Solution
This
is an example configuration, ideal for desktop storage
and scaleable to mid-level enterprise storage applications
including audio, broadcast, prepress, compact servers,
high-speed backup and data serving. This system was
designed to provide a specific solution to a client
requirement. New systems would be conceptually identical
but with the addition of newer revisions of hardware/firmware,
more robust cabinets, and/or additional comms or management
features. Best of breed combinations are always utilised.
An
internally embedded Chaparral 3rd generation G -Series
Fibre Channel to Ultra160 SCSI RAID controller (model
G7324) provides support for redundant data configurations
and high data throughput for maximum system uptime.
This
model accommodates up to ten 3.5" half-height or full-height
SCA LVD SCSI hard drives (10k and 15k rpm supported)
per shelf at up to Ultra160 SCSI speeds. Maximum number
of drives is 60. The enclosure is available as a tower
unit or a 19" rack configuration. includes daisy
chain ports, two hot-swap blowers, two hot-swap power
supplies, and six hot-swap drive canisters to support
always-online data availability.

Ideal
for the fault tolerant mission critical environments,
with the capability of sustaining over 180MB/sec sequential
RAID-5 reads from a single controller. The solution is
host independent and in conjunction with 73GB 10,000rpm
Ultra160 drives, offers scalability to over 4.3 Terabytes
of storage per controller. The G7324 controller can handle
in excess of 15,000 IOPS making it extremely fast in OLTP
and multimedia rich applications. |

Important
information on these systems & our services: |
|
|
StorageWorld
is primarily a data storage consultancy, and most equipment
we supply is through our own specifications, after exhaustive
consultation with our clients. Most array systems on
this site are specifically built to order, to match
exact client requirements.
As
we primarily provide consultant services, there is absolutely
no requirement that equipment must be supplied through
ourselves, nor do we restrict components in our reports
and recommendations only to products we can supply.
We specialise in overseeing the data storage strategy
as part of a broader project (disaster recovery planning,
datacentre construction etc.) We are more than happy
to manage projects with products supplied through your
preferred equipment suppliers.
Although
systems can be purchased without consultation, we highly
recommend that any specifcation is compiled by data
storage professionals. Complex compatibility and appropriate
technology platforms really mean systems such as these
should not be viewed in an 'off-the-shelf' manner, although
we can give prebuilt quotes on request.
These
quotes (like all prespecified array sytems from all
suppliers) require a degree of expertise to evaluate,
the responsibility for accurate specifcation having
to reside with the decision reached by the purchaser.
So, although we are happy to supply you with a quote
for a system, we cannot also build the specifcation
for a quote-only request. The specification requires
a sound knowledge of the client environment it will
be used in, the primary objective of the storage system,
the data typing, the backup policy, the level of availability
required, the access method, etc.
