EDAP: Extended Data Availability & Protection

The RAID Advisory Board (RAB) sets out the specifications for EDAP as follows:

"A storage system with EDAP capability can protect its data and provide on-line, immediate access to its data, despite failure occurrence within the storage system, within attached units or within its environment. The location, type and quantity of failure occurrences determine the degree of EDAP capability attributed to the storage system, with RAID capability being the lowest level of EDAP capability."

The objectives of RAID and EDAP are to offer data redundancy, regeneration, and reconstruction of data after hardware failure.
