A
logical volume or logical drive is the RAID array storage area as
built and administered by the controller for the storage of user
data. The capacity of the logical drive may vary according to the
requirements of the user, the abilities of the controller, and the
available capacity on the physical hard drives that form the members
of the array. The number and location of physical drives the logical
drive spans may be anything from two drives to the maximum number
of drives connected and supported by the controller. The RAID
Level implemented on the logical drive provides the data protection
and parity that allows reconstruction
of a logical drive in the event of failure.
